SA History Month - a festival of activities (May)

Dave Walsh has written about SA History Month (About TIme) on Weekend Notes here. The printed festival guide has about 500 events and activities by 300 presenters all over South Australia, including guided visits to Parliament House, Botanic Gardens and West Terrace Cemetery.

The About Time festival guide is online here.

Pilgrim Uniting Church, 12 Flinders St, will be open to visitors - here's the general blurb for About Time, and Scots Uniting Church (on corner of North Terrace and Pulteney St) will also be open - here's the general blurb.

Photographic exhibition at Scots Church (May 6th-9th)
During SA’s 2014 History Month the Uniting Church Historical Society has arranged for a photo exhibition to be held in the first week of May. The exhibition will include DVD, photos of historical importance and other material of interest to those studying the history of Australia’s indigenous people.
The curators of the exhibition the Rev Dr Bill Edwards and the Rev Dr Robert Hoskin have agreed to conduct 50 minute seminars for secondary and tertiary students. Bill served the Ernabella community from 1958 to 1972 and Robert has been awarded a doctorate on his research into the experience of the Mowanjum community in the Kimberly region of WA.
Both communities continue to make a significant contribution through their interpretation of cultural practices and traditional stories through painting, dance and song. Mowanjum’ s famous Wandjina figure was the centre piece at the opening of the Sydney Olympic games in 2000.
Many of the issues currently under discussion, dispossession, assimilation policies, self-determination, economic security and cultural revival are central to the story of these two remote communities.
We have organised seven seminar times during the first week of May … three at 10.30am, Wednesday 7th to Friday 9th and four at 1.30pm, Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th.
The exhibition is free. More information on the web site.. http://historicalsociety.unitingchurch.org.au/

This photographic exhibition will be repeated at Pilgrim Church, 12 Flinders St, Adelaide from May 13th-17th (excluding Wednesday) from 12-2pm.
